Wireless Redundant Ring for Industrial Networks

BitLogic received an inquiry from one their clients about the feasibility of creating a long range, wireless, redundant ring for industrial networking. BitLogic and B+B Smart Worx proposed a solution that was easy to implement and quite cost effective.  Bitlogic suggested deploying managed switches in combination with long range wireless Ethernet bridges.  The system would create redundant data paths, thus making the network robust and reliable.Long range, redundant ring topology for industrial networks

BitLogic designed the ring topology using B+B SmartWorx EIR608 managed switches in combination with B+B SmartWorx Ghostbridge Ethernet bridges.  With line of site ranges of up to 15 km, and data rates of up to 150 Mbps, GhostBridge could easily provide the necessary long range connectivity between the managed switches. 

One of the switches was set as a network master. If, for any reason, one of the wireless links should be disrupted, the managed switches will route the data in the opposite direction on the ring.  That provides the data path redundancy and dependable connectivity.
