Wi-Fi on the Go for Transportation Companies
B+B SmartWorx - Ottawa, United States
2 Wi-Fi Automotive Solutions provides Internet connectivity for European buses, trams, trolleybuses, taxis, and trains. Passengers can connect to Wi-Fi hotspots and/or 10/100 Ethernet ports provided in the vehicles. O2 makes the service cost-effective for the transportation companies by charging a flat monthly fee, no matter how much data the passengers may consume.
To make it work, O2 needed a secure, flexible, reliable, mobile solution that could connect anywhere the vehicles travelled, without interruptions or downtime.
O2 chose cellular routers from the B+B SmartWorx Conel division. The Conel routers provide two SIM card ports, allowing the routers to connect to whichever cellular technology is available in the vicinity, be it CDMA, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, UMTS, HSPA + and ultimately LTE. If the current connection becomes problematic, the router automatically finds an alternative. The router can also use a foreign SIM card to automatically switch the Roaming when necessary, thus continuing to provide Internet access when outside the O2 network.
Conel routers can also employ the RSeeNET monitoring system, which provides detailed information about all of the individual routers in the system.
