Facility Management: Monitoring Electric Usage Meters
B+B SmartWorx - Ottawa, United States
Second Sight Systems is an engineering services company in Missouri that specializes in engineering design, installation, and maintenance of SCADA applications and remote site monitoring systems. They were tasked with designing a system to monitor electric usage meters for a government building that covered more than 50,000 square feet.
Government contractors must adhere to exacting specifications. To meet the required standards Second Sight Systems specified B+B SmartWorx’ unmanaged Ethernet switches and EIREXTEND Ethernet extenders. The Ethernet switches enabled switching between the usage meters and the host system and the EIR Extends carried the data across the enormous facility. The final piece of the puzzle was a wireless Ethernet bridge, which enabled remote monitoring of the system. The rugged EIR205 switches and EIR-Extend Ethernet extenders have a plug-and-play design, making them easy to install and extremely reliable. Along with their wireless bridge, these products allowed them to set up an efficient energy monitoring system that meets all government standards.
